Matty Luv passed away on this day in 2002. He was a musician and activist who co-founded the San Francisco Needle Exchange, which is discussed in Erick Lyle’s book On the Lower Frequencies: A Secret History of the City.

Cosmic Hearse is the music blog of Matty’s best friend Aesop, also from Hickey and currently from the band Ludicra. He is a historian of underground music and has always been very nice in his correspondence with me when I fire off a note via email about this, that, or the other.
I’ve never met either man and I’ve never seen them play live. My connection to them is through the record player. But both men have been influential on my own music and even my worldview. Thanks to the Naked Cult, I’ll always take comfort knowing, “hey hey hey, everything will be okay.”
